When Dan Levin was young, he would stare out the backseat window of his parents’ car as they went about their way and he’d watch building after building go by. During his observations, he couldn’t help but think that something was missing and he had an innate sense that he could contribute to the design of the many cities he lived in. He was unable to shake that impression as the years passed and began to understand that the lack he was sensing was because he was seeing architecture that didn’t respond organically to its context. This longing for contextual design drives his philosophy to this day.
To get inspired, you have to get away from the problem you’re trying to solve. You have to see things from another angle.
Dan knows that inspiration often hits when you least expect it and in the most unexpected ways. This is precisely why he invites opportunities to explore new places, meet new people and look at every design problem from a different angle. Rather than force solutions, Dan is open to allowing the right outcome to be uncovered through a natural process of discovery. Having been involved in developments across three continents, he also understands the importance of considering cultural aspects of design as part of comprehensive and inspiring solutions.
With nearly 20 years of experience, Dan has been with B+H since 2007 and has worked in our Ho Chi Minh City, Shanghai and Toronto offices. He fuses his extensive knowledge of building envelope design and detailing with a passionate focus on green and sustainable development. Dan’s experience with complex and challenging large-scale projects has also given him the skills he needs to manage multi-disciplinary teams to uncover inspiring designs.
